Staying in an Artist Residence has always been an absolute dream for me; they’re so beautiful and exactly how I would style a hotel if I was so lucky to run one! We have one down in Cornwall, which I have visited to eat but never to stay but a recent trip to the Oxford/Cotswolds area meant it was finally my chance to try one out and boy, was it all I had dreamt of!
The hotel is an old Inn in the countryside and it still has all the charm. With the thatched roof, thick walls and creaky floorboards inside, you have the absolute best of old and new. They have an array of rooms on offer, including a stunning suite and a shepherds hut in the garden. We booked one of the loft rooms which was beautiful as the room had a view over the garden and enjoyed the sunrise bursting through the window in the morning.
We had a wonderfully comfortable double bed, two cosy arm chairs, a desk area and all the add ons including a TV, stocked mini bar and ample storage space. They even prepared some freshly baked cookies upon arrival – yum!
The bathroom was so gorgeous, with the free standing roll top bath perched right below the window looking to the garden, a powerful shower and lovely Bramley products to use.
As with all their properties, you can stay and eat here so whether you want to have the full experience or just pop by for some grub, it caters for all. You can eat and drink inside the Inn, which is so cosy with their fireplaces and shabby chic furniture or you can opt for the garden which is peaceful backing onto a country road and enjoys the sunshine.
The Mason Arms offers everything to not have to leave the property for as long as you are visiting. With a delicious breakfast and day time menu, array of drinks on offer, gardens to sit in, bikes to take out to head down the country tracks – you have everything you need! For breakfast I had the pancakes and for dinner, the fish and butterbean – both amazing!
It honestly was as good as I had imagined, no detail has been forgotten and you feel so at home here, I wish we were staying longer! I hope one day I can visit one of their other offerings to continue enjoying their brilliantly designed stays.
