As well as being a beautiful little town, a hot spot for great food places and a big destination for holiday makers in Cornwall, Porthleven also boasts being the most Southern working port in the UK. Porthleven is on the West coast of Cornwall, a short distance from Helston and about a 20 minute drive from Penzance.
Along the harbour, it’s the best place to sit and watch as people use the calm waters for water sports such as paddle boarding.
There’s some fantastic places to eat in Porthleven, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. One this occasion we headed to Mussel Shoal on the harbour and cannot recommend it enough! This spot is right on the harbour side offering open air seating or takeaway. It’s a seafood based menu and we went for the calamari and the fish burger – both delicious! They’re obvious well known for their mussels also as well as being a cool spot to have a drink of an evening.
My favourite thing to do in fishing towns like Porthleven, is to wander around the side streets and stare heart-eyed at the cute cottages and pick out my favourite. I’m sure I’m not alone and if you haven’t done it – try it!
Porthleven is famous for its food festival which is worth checking the diary to see if you can head down. There’s ample car parking a short walk out of the town and the perfect spot for a day trip or as a base for your visit.
