Albufeira, Portugal

Postcards From The Algarve, Portugal

With my birthday in March, my Mum and I like to use it as an excuse to go on holiday. Christmas and the New Year is over, it’s been dark for most of the last six months and boy are we ready for some time away. It’s not the best time to travel, especially around Europe as the weather can be hit or miss but we set our sights on Portugal after finding a brilliant deal for a hotel in Albufeira and off we went!

We were staying at the Grande Real Santa Eulalia in Albufeira and it was so lovely. It was out of season so the hotel was so, so quiet. We had a double room with a view of the water and got to enjoy the beach and the indoor pool in peace. The outdoor pool was closed at this time, not that we would have used it anyway! The facilities were wonderful and the indoor pool has a seawater thermal spa which we used most days and our skin was left so soft.

We were staying with only breakfast included which was a good sized buffet. The main town was a little bus ride away so we opted to eat in the hotel for one meal each day and they have a few restaurants to choose from. On one occasion we had lunch and beautiful fish and salad and one evening we had burgers, those chips were so light and fluffy!

The hotel offered a free shuttle to the old and the new town which we made good use of. The new town is closest with convenience stores, bars and some souvenir shops which is handy if you need anything, this is walking distance but as the shuttle was free! The old town is lovely, a quaint little town with plenty of shops and places to eat, a lovely beach and little streets.

Overall it was a lovely little break and we highly recommend the hotel we stayed in. I’d love to head back to Portugal and visit Lisbon one day.
