Growing up in Cornwall and particularly on a farm on Bodmin moor, it’s pretty much impossible to walk to a nice coffee shop, cafe or pub. That was until Cardinham Woods and Woods Cafe came in to my life! This beautiful forestry which is very well respected for its walking paths, cycling routes and its child friendly activities. As well as all that, it also offers the cutest little cottage offering delicious lunches, baked goods and coffees and is known as Woods Cafe and I am lucky enough to say, I can stroll from my front door down here and it’s the best!
Cardinham Woods can be found just outside of Bodmin, towards Fletchers Bridge. As you head down towards the woods, there’s ample car parking with public loos and facilities. There’s four walking routes and three cycle routes but you can just meander your way around as you please. There’s a river that runs through the woods for dogs and children to play in and enjoy.
Woods Cafe is such a delightful place. The cafe is open all year round except Christmas Day and the opening times change slightly through the seasons but they close around 4/5pm. The cafe offers a range of lunches, specials and baked goods. On this occasion my Mum had the soup and I had the quesadilla which were on the specials menu. Around winter time, they also offer their hot chocolates which come in a range of amazing flavours and toppings. I couldn’t fit one in this time but I’m heading back asap for that salted caramel one!
Whether it’s a dog walk, stroll with friends or an opportunity to let the kids run and burn off some energy, Cardinham Woods is the perfect place to head to. Come rain or shine, it’s a really peaceful place and despite the cycle routes and the signposts, it’s perfectly preserved and not over commercialised.
Will you be heading down to the woods anytime soon? Remember, check out those hot chocolates!
