I am always on a look out for exciting food places in Cornwall. Living in North Cornwall, there’s not too much on offer so it’s quite rare when I spot somewhere I haven’t tried before. During a late night Instagram scroll, I spotted Gilmores and I instantly started planning the soonest I could get to Newquay and try this place. A great menu, quirky setting and even mini golf – it’s literally the perfect place and somewhere I will certainly be making regular trips to.
Conveniently located on Tower Road, right next to a car park, this cool little place offers cosy indoor seating next to a wood burner and ample outside seating if you’re lucky to get the weather. Inside is the perfect mix of cosy living and laid back cool meaning you could happily spend hours just sitting on a stool by the window watching the world go by, tucking into fish tacos and sipping good cider.
Off the breakfast menu, you’ll be spending between £5 – £7 per dish and the main menu is circa £6 – £12. It’s a very reasonable price considering the quality and taste on offer. They also have milkshakes for £4 a piece and I am very keen on the malteaser flavour!
The menu at Gilmores is right up my street; tacos, nachos, burritos – I couldn’t choose from all the goodness! The menu would serve really well with a large group of friends, ordering several pieces and sharing it all.
I opted for the vegetarian bowl, it was a very hard decision as the menu is delicious but I was happy with my choice! The bowl is made up of rice, black beans, spinach, guacamole, tomato salsa, pickled onions and topped with a fried egg. It was a perfect mix and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Alex went for the pulled pork burrito. A delightfully warm wrap with pulled pork, spinach, slaw and cheese. It’s a whopper of a burrito and the perfect companion on a cold afternoon.
Gilmores offers a mini golf course and at only £5 per adult, what better way to let your lunch settle down before heading to the beach. Unfortunately for us, we did not get the weather. It was a wet and windy March afternoon so we skipped the golf but I’ll be bringing my friends back here in the summer, for sure.
Overall, I am so impressed with this place and I only wish I could call it my local! A short drive to the coast won’t stop me spending summer afternoons here though. Find Gilmores menu online here.
